Online information event for potential foster carers

People can find out how they can support local children at an online fostering information event next week.

Blackpool Council is holding an online session on Thursday 7 November at 6pm.

The informal event will provide potential foster carers with the opportunity to find out everything they need to know about the fostering journey.

There will be a chance to ask the friendly fostering recruitment team any questions, as well as hear from a Blackpool Council foster carer.

Information will be available about the excellent support package available to foster carers, which includes ongoing training, peer mentors for new carers, an out of hours support and advice line, and a dedicated supervising social worker.

We need you

We're looking for a diverse range of fostering families who can provide a safe and loving environment for children and young people in Blackpool.

Foster carers are required across all age ranges but there is a particular need to recruit foster carers for certain groups of children including older children and younger teenagers.

Cllr Jim Hobson, Blackpool Council Cabinet Member for Children’s Social Care, said:

“If you're interested in fostering or if you’re already an approved foster carer looking to transfer then this is the ideal opportunity to find out more. “Join us from the comfort of your own home and have a chat with our friendly team. It’s a great chance to find out about the different types of fostering and how we support you to be a foster carer. “There is no typical foster carer – our carers come from all backgrounds and bring a wide range of life and work experience – so if you’ve ever considered fostering then please join our online event.”

People interested in becoming a foster carer must have a spare bedroom and be over 21 years.
